2014 Stewardship Campaign
For too long our church has been weighted down by the burden of debt. We want to invest more in missions and ministry, but we can't because so much of our budget is consumed by debt service. This has been our plight for more than 30 years. We've been chipping away at it and now the end is in sight! Now is the time to dream big and take action. To get excited about what we can and will do for God when we are debt free!
That's why we are asking everyone to work together to "Dump the Debt!” "Dump the Debt!" is a three year campaign being launched in 2014. Why do we want to “Dump the Debt!?,” so that we can free our people and our resources to meet new challenges! Among those challenges are opportunities to be far more active in local, national and world missions and to do needed updates to our sanctuary.
Our goal is to raise $3 million-- $2 million over three years to pay off our debt and to renovate our sanctuary; and, at least $1 million over time through estate planning to go grow our Endowment for Missions. When the debt is eliminated, we’ll have the means to give more to missions, to strengthen our family ministries, to improve our facilities, and so much more! Think about it! What could we do with another $250,000 of freed-up cash each year? That’s what we’ll have when we “Dump the Debt!”
Our church has a rich history of giving. In 1904 two of our charter members -- Mary and Lucinda Owens – donated their family land, including their family cemetery to provide our current location. In 1933 when we needed education space, W.R. Corn donated lumber from his property to provide the building materials. As our church grew, the sacrifices of our faithful members kept pace. Later generations gave generously to build new buildings and start new churches. (Did you know that Brookwood Community Church just down the road is a result of our giving?)
Today with over 2,000 members, our church enjoys the benefits of the gifts and sacrifices of those who came before us. What will we leave for those who come after us? We must not simply enjoy what we have; we too must sow seeds for generations to come. We believe the Lord is calling us to take on this challenge. It won't be easy. But with God leading the way, we can do this! Our rich history of people stepping up and giving is a legacy that provides a strong foundation. We are confident that this generation will likewise rise to the challenge!
The challenge will be to raise funds above and beyond our regular needs. To be successful requires that every one of us do our part – no more; no less. The hill is high but the view from the top will be well worth the climb! If we trust the Lord, the Bible says “You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God” (2 Corinthians 9:11). We look forward to working with you as we dream and give together to “Dump the Debt!” so that ________________________________...
